Monday, December 11, 2006: To a certain Sop 2 junior...
I'm not naming you here, and I most likely won't be naming any other people involved in this. Your senior, Penelope On another note, I just discovered that my little orange lizard beanie is a fake. It doesn't matter anyway, because it reminds me of three people whom I either like or respect, or both.
You do remember that we went to (Alto 2 junior)'s house to practice for the November auditions, right? It was then and there that, during one of our breaks, I played for you the piece that I'd made up (in spite of my low-level music background), and you suggested that I add something between the repetitions to add interest.
I'm not slamming you or anything because I don't intend to.
Today, I successfully added an intermezzo somewhere in there, and it sounds fine. However, I really don't think I'll even consider making it a fixture of the piece. I did tell you that I made it up while thinking of someone, didn't I? Well, I'd just like to say this: the interest is there, but when I play it, it breaks the momentum of the spirit and emotion that flows through me. It feels as if an army of Russian marionettes has invaded my piece.
It doesn't matter if the emotion doesn't flow from me into the original piece and into my audience; when I play the original, the emotion is inside, stirring my blood, stirring my heart, stirring my soul. With the intermezzo, the flow of emotion in me is disrupted, and hence I think I'll just stick with the original version. Thank you for the tip, though. I might want to try it again when I become as experienced as someone (not the same as the someone above) - and possibly work my grade high enough to be able to do something like Mr. Ko Matsushita did with our set piece.
Singing off. ^_^
